Michael Gerhartz
Expedition Team
Photographer above and below the surface, author, bear monitor, and expedition team member.
Mike is a nine-time international award-winning author and professional photographer who has spent the last years on Canada’s Hudson Bay and the Arctic as a polar bear guide, Zodiac operator, and photographer.
Mike is originally from Germany, but moved to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, in 1999, where he spent the last twenty-five years exploring and documenting the underwater world and shipwrecks as a master scuba diver trainer. As a competition-winning photographer, he uses his cameras above and below the surface for emotional storytelling, conversation, education, and scientific projects. His passion for untamed nature and beautiful landscapes led him on numerous photo journeys, including Iceland, the Canadian Arctic, and Hudson Bay, where he also worked as a Zodiac operator and bear monitor.
When he is not behind the camera or underwater, Mike loves to write thrillers, with his second novel, DARK TIMES, receiving nine international awards.
Always looking for new challenges and stories to tell, Mike is excited to share his passion for photography and nature with others.
