If you do not consent to our practices concerning your personal information as set forth in this Privacy Policy, please do not use our services.
Please direct any questions regarding our Privacy Policy or the information contained herein to our Privacy Officer.
What is considered personal information?
Personal Information — When used in this Privacy Policy, personal information means any information pertaining to an identifiable individual. This may include, for example, your name, contact information, home address, telephone number, email-address, information relating to your inquiry with us, any complaints documented in a file or other personal or demographic information. It may also include other types of more technical information such as online/users’ IP addresses, user IDs, browser history (pages accessed, date of access, location when accessed), but only when this information can identify you as an individual.
Non-Identifiable Information — Personal information that is de-identified and/or aggregated and cannot be associated with an identifiable individual is not considered to be personal information. Adventure Canada reserves the right to conduct statistical analyses through the use of personal information and/or data collected, including the data collected from individuals who interact with us on an anonymous and/or aggregated basis in order to understand users’ interests, improve our products and services and measure interest in and use of our website. Adventure Canada reserves the right to provide its analyses based on such anonymous and/or aggregated data to third parties.
Why is personal information collected?
We collect various types of personal information in the course of offering services or providing services. You may provide us with personal information online or through our website, for example when you book a trip, when you create an account to manage your travel details, when you contact us with questions or request our brochure, when you leave a reply on the blog section of our website, when you subscribe to Adventure Canada’s newsletter or other commercial email communications, or when you interact with us through social media channels. As a traveller or potential traveller with Adventure Canada, you may be required to provide us with your personal information together with the personal information of those for whom you may be booking adventures, including name, date of birth, address, phone number, email address, credit card details, passport information, dietary restrictions, personal health information, and medication information. As a travel agent, you may be required to provide us with your personal information, including your name, agency information, address, phone number, and email address as well as with the personal information set forth above pertaining to the travellers or potential travellers who you represent.
The collection of this information is done to allow us to provide services to you as requested, including booking trips and accommodation, registering you to receive newsletters, answering your requests for information about our trips, and providing you with information about Adventure Canada and/or our services. Furthermore, this personal information allows us to:
- Understand the needs of our customers, whether such customers are travellers or potential travellers, or travel agents, as well as improve and personalize our products and services or develop new ones.
- Determine eligibility for our products and services.
- Subject, to your right to revoke consent, inform you about our products and services, or those of our partners, that we believe may be of interest to you, via direct marketing, or through mail, telephone or electronic means, and conduct after-sales marketing.
- Facilitate or confirm a transaction such as your subscription to our services, to provide you with information about your ongoing use of our services or your ongoing subscription or accounts, to inform you of any incident regarding the security of your information or in order to enforce a legal right or obligation.
- Provide ongoing service.
If you are providing personal information on someone other than yourself, you are representing to Adventure Canada that you have such third parties’ consent to provide their personal information in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy.
We only send marketing or promotional communications when you have subscribed for such communications, or where your consent to such communications may be implied by law. You may opt out of such communications at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in any of the communications or by contacting our Privacy Officer.
Express and Implied Consent
We send commercial electronic messages (CEMs) for the purposes of promoting our products and services and building our community of likeminded travellers and advocates. To send you electronic messages we must have your express or implied consent.
Express consent is when you directly request or explicitly agree to receive our electronic communications. Examples of this are when you check the box that says “I would like to receive more information about Adventure Canada’s products, events, news, and offers” on the newsletter subscription form or when you call to be added to our email list. After express consent is collected, we can start sending you electronic messages until you unsubscribe or call us to remove you from our CEMs list. Adventure Canada reserves the right to have mandatory opt-ins on our CEM consent forms. For example, our webinar registrations require your express consent and, if not provided, you cannot register for the webinar.
Implied consent is collected when you make an inquiry about our products or services, for example when you submit a “Get a Quote” form. When you do so, we may add your email to our CEM list and send you promotional emails related to our product and services. Implied consent is time-limited. We can continue sending CEMs to you for six months from the moment we collected the implied consent or until you unsubscribe. If after six months you don’t provide us with explicit consent, we’ll remove you from our mailing list.
