Marcia Klein
Botanist
Marcia loves to wander and wonder on land searching for amazing plants. She enthusiastically seeks and shares stories, especially about local cultural plant uses (ethnobotany).
Marcia worked as a nature interpreter in the prairies and boreal forest for decades with provincial parks, national parks, and the Meewasin Conservation Centre in Saskatchewan, Canada.Â
She taught sciences and outdoor education (kindergarten to grade twelve) in French and recently a kinesiology class—nature, health, and outdoor leadership—where students became excited to discover many boreal plants. Marcia believes the best place to learn is in an outdoor classroom where people experience hands-on discoveries. She approaches learning with a sense of wonder and joy.Â
Marcia is a National Geographic certified educator, received the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence, and is on the Canadian Geographic education executive.Â
Marcia loves paddling Canadian northern wild rivers (Broken Skull-Nahanni, NWT, and many rivers in Saskatchewan and British Columbia). She embraces mindfulness, fun, and fitness through yoga instruction, Nordic and skate skiing, camping, pottery, and travel. She is growing her skills in sea kayaking and arts. In her “second youth” (retired), she is thrilled to join Adventure Canada to share her passion for plants and nature connections as you renew your curiosity and joie de vivre. Many plants we will see share the boreal ecozone!
