John Blyth

John’s connection to the land started early, growing up in national parks across Canada and the Northwest Territories. This deep-rooted love for wild places and the people who call them home led him to study archaeology and anthropology, eventually shaping his career as a multidisciplinary consultant. For over a decade, he has worked across the North in environmental science, education, and wilderness safety.

Never one for tropical getaways, John has instead explored the far reaches of the circumpolar world, from Svalbard and northern Scandinavia to Greenland, the Canadian Arctic, and even Yakutia in the Russian Far East. His passion for the North extends beyond work—he’s an avid whitewater kayaker who spends his summers navigating the big rapids of the Slave River near his home in Fort Smith.

Since 2010, John has run a multidisciplinary consulting firm, blending environmental education, outdoor safety certification, and Indigenous guardianship training. Since 2016, he has also worked in the expedition cruise industry, sharing his knowledge and love of the Arctic with travellers from around the world.
