Inuit Cultural Educator, Expedition Team

An Inuk from Iqaluit, Izaac is a passionate outdoorsman whose career is dedicated to the stewardship and protection of Inuit marine and environmental interests.

Izaac is a twenty-nine-year-old Inuk born and raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut. A graduate of the environmental technology program at Nunavut Arctic College, he has built a multifaceted career rooted in his deep respect for the land, traditional knowledge, and Inuit culture. He currently works as an AIS (Automatic Identification System) technician with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI), where he contributes to the stewardship and protection of Inuit marine and environmental interests across the territory.

Izaac is a passionate hunter, dog teamer, and outdoorsman with a strong connection to the environment that has shaped his life. His lived knowledge of the land is enhanced by his professional work in environmental technology and monitoring.

He is a founding member of the Qajakkut Society, established alongside Robert Comeau. Qajakkut Society is dedicated to the revitalization and teaching of all aspects of traditional Inuit qajaq (kayak) making and use.

Izaac is well-travelled throughout Inuit Nunangat and has spent time working, travelling and hunting in many of Nunavut’s twenty-five communities. His work and personal exploration have taken him to many remarkable parts of the territory, including Ellesmere Island, Sirmilik National Park, and numerous areas across Baffin Island, among others. 

Izaac remains deeply committed to the preservation and celebration of Inuit traditional knowledge and practices.Â
