Aidan Moghada

Researcher-in-Residence

Aidan is researching the environmental impacts of Arctic shipping, with a focus on microplastic pollution, marine ecosystems, and the intersection of science, industry, and community resilience.

Aidan is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Geomatics at the University of Ottawa, specializing in the environmental impacts of Arctic shipping, particularly the spread of microplastic pollution from ship-based sources. His work assesses the changes that increased vessel traffic brings to northern ecosystems and the implications for Indigenous communities that rely on healthy marine environments for food and water.

Before beginning his PhD, Aidan spent nearly twenty years working in engineering,  project management, and quality systems across various industries worldwide. His technical background inspires his commitment to bridging academic research with practical, real-world solutions to address environmental challenges.

His research focuses on improving the understanding of microplastic pollution originating from ships in the Arctic and the environmental changes associated with increasing vessel traffic. By developing a comprehensive database, he aims to support future research efforts and contribute to informed decision-making for the protection of northern ecosystems.
